Research
The Initiative in Religious Practices and Practical Theology has supported innovative student & faculty research projects in a variety of fields and topical areas.
-
Faculty Colloquia have provided a venue for interdisciplinary conversation about recent work among professors in the Department of Religion and Candler School of Theology.
-
Student Projects have included exploratory research in the context of the PhD Concentration's core seminar and further work with living communities, through qualitative research, internships or teaching, in fulfillment of the Experiential Requirement. Several concentrators are now also at the stage of including attention to Religious Practices & Practical Theology in their dissertations.
- Journal Consultations are part of the Initiative's commitment to engage in new forms of collaborative research between students, practitioners and scholars in varied fields and contexts, and to disseminate the insights of this work in accessible forms. Each issue of the journal Practical Matters, oriented around a specific topic, is preceded by an in-person Consultation on that theme. Work-in-progress presented at or emerging from the Consultation contributes to the content of that journal issue.
